Welcome!

The Michigan Geological & Gemcraft Society (MGAGS) is a state wide organization whose primary activity is a seminar offering a wide variety of classes, demonstrations and workshops related to geology and gemcraft.

Quarterly meetings to plan the seminar are held at various locations across Michigan.  A quarterly newsletter provides a way for local earth science clubs to network.

The 2010 Seminar, our 36th, will be June 12 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and 13 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Webberville High/Middle School, 309 West Grand River, Webberville, Michigan  (about 12 miles east of Lansing).

Pre-Registration is now available, just print the form mail with check or money order.  Register early, don't forget the dinner on Saturday night. What a great way to get to know your fellow rockhounds.

Some food will be available on site as there are no fast food restaurants nearby.

About 30 presentations will be offered, generally including a lapidary workshop, beading projects, gem trees, wire wrap jewelry, silversmithing, flint knapping, fossils, etc.  (specific descriptions will be available when the schedule is set by April--check back for more information).

In conjunction with our annual seminar, the Midwest Faceters' Guild will be offering a faceting seminar.

We would like to bid a found far-well to Alice and Grit Turner, who have taught at MGAGS for many years.  They are no longer going to be teaching here at this seminar, but we are very fortunate to have had the oportunity to take their classes in the past, and have learned much from them.  Have a great retirement, you will be sorely missed by all I am sure.

Special Guest:
Barb Yost has been faceting for about two years.  Barb has gone hunting for stones at a variety of mines and sites.  She started faceting to finish off what she had found.  She says design is a receipe for the size and shape you are cutting and polishing the stone to be.  To get the best refractive lighting for the stone to show off it's natural beauty to the absolute best, below you will see one of her finished projects.  Come meet Barb or some of the other facetors, see how the magic of it all works to perfection. The classes will be running at the same time as the MGAGS seminar, so pop in and get a taste for faceting.  for more information you can contact www.midwestfacetersguild.org.
