Welcome!

The Michigan Geological & Gemcraft Society (MGAGS) is a state wide organization whose primary activity is a seminar offering a wide variety of classes, demonstrations and workshops related to geology and gemcraft.

The 2010 schedule is now on the website, take a look, print the registration form send it in and join us!

Quarterly meetings to plan the seminar are held at various locations across Michigan.  Next meeting is planed for Saturday May 1,2010. At the Kalamazoo Geological & Mineral Society Show.  Kalamazoo County Expo Center (Fairgrounds) 2900 Lake St., Kalamazoo, MI at 1:00 PM.  A quarterly newsletter provides a way for local earth science clubs to network.

The 2010 Seminar, our 36th, will be June 12 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and 13 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Webberville High/Middle School, 309 West Grand River, Webberville, Michigan  (about 12 miles east of Lansing).

Subway Sandwich Boxed Lunch $5.00 (place order Sat./Sun morning)
Catered Saturday Dinner $15.00 (must be resered in advance)

About 30 presentations will be offered, generally including a lapidary workshop, beading projects, gem trees, wire wrap jewelry, silversmithing, flint knapping, fossils, etc.  (specific descriptions will be available when the schedule is set by April--check back for more information).

We would like to bid a found far-well to Alice and Grit Turner, who have taught at MGAGS for many years.  They are no longer going to be teaching here at this seminar, but we are very fortunate to have had the oportunity to take their classes in the past, and have learned much from them.  Have a great retirement, you will be sorely missed by all I am sure.

Teacher Feature:

Jerri Heer has been creating Gem Trees for about ten years. A member of the Toledo Gem & Rockhound Club, she learned with her children at a Juniors meeting. She has advanced way beyond those first mini trees to create a variety of sizes and styles that combine her love of rocks with observance of nature. She has developed her own designs to resemble willows, spruces, oaks, palm trees and more. Jerri uses her artist's eye to choose the right colors of wire, leaf stone and base stone to produce eye pleasing sculptures. She will be teaching beginning and advanced Gem Tree classes at the MGAGS Seminar this summer. Stop in and give it a try!
